The Kazakhstan tennis player expressed his desire to play at the Laver Cup and criticized the fact that the Team World was not inclusive and representative of all the countries outside of Europe. He also pointed out the fact that the World No.10, Diego Schwartzman, had to be included in the squad as well as stating his extreme love for team sports and excitement of playing at the Laver Cup.
Alexander Bublik was indeed disappointed for not being taken into consideration for the Laver Cup, for which he showed a lot of enthusiasm to feature. Speaking further about this issue, he criticized John McEnroe and Team World, stating,
Diego Schwartzman at the time was #10 in the world, so it was impossible not to take him. I expressed a desire, I would like to play and I love team events. But for some reason I'm now sure that ‘the World’ is everyone who speaks English. I'll be glad if he reads this.
Team Europe looks to make a comeback as they rope in Carlos Alcaraz
World No.2 Carlos Alcaraz is all set to make his Laver Cup debut as he has confirmed his participation for Team Europe in the next edition of the tournament in 2024. The reigning Wimbledon champion will prove to be a huge asset to Team Europe as he will play an instrumental role in taking revenge on their opponent’s team.
For context, Team Europe has won the first 4 editions of the Laver Cup, while Team World has stepped up and gone ahead to win the last two.
Bjorn Borg had earlier stated that he would leave no room left for improvement and will go all out against the defending champions after their shocking and humiliating defeat in this year’s edition. The 2024 Laver Cup will be the 7th edition of the tournament and will take place from the 20th to the 22nd of September, in Berlin, Germany.
