Daniil Medvedev beat Alexander Zverev in five sets to book a place in the finals of the Australian Open. It was a hell of a match between two high-performing campaigners.

Zverev started off the match really well, winning the first two sets quite convincingly. However, more interestingly, World No. 3 came back strongly from behind to clinch the next two sets in the tiebreakers and then ultimately won the fifth set to advance to the finals of the tournament.

However, things got a bit intense between the two players during the course of the match. It was during the fourth set of the match that the Russian requested to see the replay of a point.

Reacting to this Zverev shrugged his shoulder and said

With that being said, the rivalry between the two seems to not be ending anytime soon. Especially after the release of Netflix’s show Break Point, in which an episode showed the Monte Carlo match between the Russian and the German. During this, World No. 2 was portrayed as a villain. Besides, the match also ended with a no-look handshake.

Daniil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner both look for their first Australian Open title

After the victory, the Russian will look to lock horns with Jannik Sinner for his first Australian Open title. The Italian earlier today defeated the defending champion, Novak Djokovic, in four sets.

Owing to this, the world No. 4 will be high on confidence and will be eying his maiden Grand Slam title.

Though the Russian leads their rivalry 6-3, he hasn’t been able to defeat the Italian in the last three face-offs between them. Their last match was in the Nitto ATP Finals
