Alexander Zverev-Daniil Medvedev’s controversy did not seem to die down. Or can be said that both parties do not want to douse this ignited fire. Now, the German has shared his own opinion again on the growing rivalry with the Russian on-court and off.

Alexander Zverev came back to his homeland to participate in the BMW Open to be held in Munich. He chose to give Barcelona Open a miss and play at the ATP 250 event. On the sidelines of the tournament, in a recent interaction with the journalists, he shared his views on myriad topics. However, when he was asked about his recent spat with Daniil Medvedev at Monte-Carlo Masters, he gave quite an aggressive answer.

“I have never used a bathroom break to my advantage or taken an unnecessary time out. I win and lose with tennis and I’m very proud of that. I think people should form their own opinions. If he wants to talk to me, he is very welcome to do so. I have no problem with that,” the world No.16 said.

Since returning to the sport after more than six months of injury-break from tennis at the start of the season, Alexander Zverev has mostly struggled with both form and fitness. The German got injured during the semi-final of the Roland Garros 2022 against Rafael Nadal.

However, slowly this season, the world No.16 is able to find his firm footing and the recent performances are testimony to that. The BMW Open, also known as the Bavarian International, could be the game-changer for him. If he can win this tournament, it will definitely help his confidence a great deal.

However, the competition is quite high this time around. Holger Rune, who is the defending champion, is a brilliant clay court player and recently he played in the final of the Monte-Carlo Masters. Although he lost that match, facing him will be the biggest challenge for the German in this tournament.

Other challengers include Taylor Fritz, Botic van de Zandschulp, amongst others. Hence, Alexander Zverev will have to play his best to be able to win this tournament. Also, he needs to pay special attention to his fitness as the clay season is going to be heated up with two ATP Masters tournaments coming up.
