German ace Alexander Zverev wasn’t particularly happy in his Round of 32 clash against Yoshihito Nishioka at the Cincinnati Open. He was seen ranting a lot and was involved in a long conversation with the umpire. However, he wasn’t upset with his opponent or the umpire.

His basic complaint was towards the tournament in general. Nowadays a lot of the tournaments are coming under scrutiny for their unhelpful scheduling for the players. The result of that was what disturbed and perturbed Zverev.

The music at the Cincinnati has been loud and it was disturbing the players. Tennis is one of those games where silence is supreme, in that to have the speakers buzzing wasn’t going to please the German. “It’s not your fault. This is ridiculous because we’re playing a Masters, we’re not playing a 250. I won this tournament, you know, it’s not like just a random tournament that we’re just playing,” Zverev said to Umpire mid-match.

He later continued,“There’s literally music coming on break point when I was serving and on break point when he was serving. And the thing is, the distance of the music is exactly the same from that corner as from that corner.” Zverev made sure he points out two important things the first one being that the players are in a Masters series match and not in a 250 match. He also pointed the fact out that he has won this event previously and knows the effort that it takes and as a player should be treated with respect.

Zverev feels not only him but his rivals will also suffer

Alexander Zverev didn’t only stop at himself when he complained. He named all those who were going to play on the court as well and was fighting for them as well. He felt that the music isn’t letting players get into rhythm which is leading them to lose crucial points. “This court today is me, Casper Ruud, Holger Rune, Monfils. We were all players who either won Masters series or were playing 10 or more years on the court. I have to serve break point against me at 5-4 with the music blasting and I have to return at 5-5 with break point with me with the music blasting as well.” (H/T: Express.co.uk)

The German’s rant was not over yet, as he continued,“You’re lacking courts because the matches weren’t played on Tuesday or whatever but then adjust, turn it off.” He also noted the fact that because the play was suspended on Tuesday and that too had something to do with the mismatched scheduling which resulted in the music being a menace.

Eventually, the supervisor was also called to look into the matter. It’ll be interesting to see what permanent action is taken. Zverev however won the match and will now face old rival Daniil Medvedev in the next round.
