World No. 5 Alexander Zverev has been in brilliant form so far at the 2024 Miami Masters. On the back of four consecutive straight-set victories, the German No. 1 has qualified for the semi-finals of the event. As he stands a chance to face Jannik Sinner in the finals, he gave his opinion on the exponential rise of the Italian.

Zverev defeated Fabian Marozsan 6-3, 7-5 in the quarter-finals to book his spot in the last four. It is the second semis qualification for the German at the event. He previously finished runner-up at the tournament in 2018 losing to American veteran John Isner.

The Olympian will now take on Grigor Dimitrov for a place in the title decider. The World No. 12 put on a masterclass as he sent the top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz packing in straight-sets. The Spaniard later admitted to feeling like a 13-year-old against the Bulgarian during the tie.

As for Sinner, he defeated Tomas Machac in the quarter-finals to reach his third semis in four appearances in Miami. He will now take on Daniil Medvedev in the semis in what will be a repeat of last year’s title decider.

The German was questioned on his opinion about the Italian youngster who recently won the Australian Open as well. The question primarily revolved around whether the 22-year-old could reach the top of the rankings soon given Alcaraz and World No. 1 Novak Djokovic still placed above him.

I think he sucks (jokingly). Look, he won the Australian Open, won Rotterdam, and he's what, 19-1 so far this year? I think if you have these kinds of statistics, it's very logical that you're on the right path and you're on the way to be there, right? Do I think that he's going to be as unbeatable as he is so far this year?
said Zverev, speaking in his post-match press conference.

Zverev praised the Italian’s start to the season having won 16 matches on the trot before losing his first. He compared the start to the likes of the Big-3 and predicted Sinner could be the World No. 1 for a long time.

I don't know. Because right now he's lost one match. It's unbelievable. It's like a statistic like Djokovic started in his best years. Federer started like this in his best years. Rafa started like this I think once in his career. If he keeps it like that, then he's not only going to be No. 1 in the world, he's going to be No. 1 in the world for the next ten years.
added the German.

Alexander Zverev remains focused on becoming an obstacle for Jannik Sinner

While the former World No. 2 was full of praise for the Italian, he didn’t stop being a competitor of his. He commented on wanting to be a challenge for the reigning Australian Open winner and make things difficult for him.

He also hoped his colleagues such as Djokovic, Alcaraz, and Medvedev would also contribute alongside him. This will only make the Tour more competitive and challenging for all of them.

But it's up to him and it's also up to me, up to Carlos, up to Daniil, up to Novak as well to stop him from doing that. Of course he's somebody that we now probably look out for, you know, one of two or three players that we look out for the most.
commented Zverev.

Zverev also admitted to studying Sinner’s game more amid his rise. All of this is to find his weaknesses and exploit them during the matches to defeat him eventually.

We study him, we try to understand his game, we try to understand what can make him feel uncomfortable. And we'll see if we can use it.
concluded the World No. 5.

If Zverev and Sinner do meet in the finals, it will be the sixth career meeting between the two. Zverev currently leads the head-to-head 4-1. Sinner won their first-ever match but since then, all four clashes have gone in the German’s favor.
