German tennis ace Alexander Zverev has confessed that he is not so proud of his country’s history while revealing the details of the fans who the tennis ace got kicked out of the stadium. Zverev revealed what exactly the fan was shouting and then admitted that he is not proud of Germany’s history.
Notably, during his match against Italian Jannik Sinner, Zverev complained to the chair umpire about a guy in the stands and claimed that he was saying the famous “Hitler phrase”. While Zverev then did not reveal what the spectator was exactly shouting, he later revealed the details to a journalist.
A journalist named Andrew Jerell asked Alexander Zverev about what exactly transpired on the court. To which the German replied, “He started singing the anthem of Hitler, back in the day. It was a bit too much. I think he was getting involved in the match too much. Me being German & not really proud of that history, it’s not really a great thing to do.”
The 26-year-old also said that it would have been ignorant of him to pretend like he did not hear anything. “Him sitting in the front row and a lot of people hearing it, if I don’t react, it would not have been the right thing,” added Zverev.
Alexander Zverev gets ready for Carlos Alcaraz challenge
After defeating Jannik Sinner in a marathon five-set thriller in the pre-quarters, Alexander Zverev will now face the Spanish ace and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz. It is expected to be a thrilling contest, considering the head-to-head record between the two players. In the five matches played so far, Alcaraz has won two while the German has won three of them.
In the latest three matches, Carlos Alcaraz leads the head-to-head 2-1. While Alexander Zverev won the Roland Garros quarterfinal this year, the Spaniard won the Madrid Open encounters in 2022 and 2023. Now, it will be interesting to see who takes the lead now.
Speaking of the two players’ campaign at the 2023 US Open so far, while Alcaraz has not had much trouble winning his four matches so far, Zverev has had to earn victories in three of the four matches. His match against Sinner was the best of all, as it lasted for 4 hours and 41 minutes. Now, with Alcaraz as his opponent, another physically draining game is on the cards for the German.
