Alize Cornet, the French tennis player, lambasted Roland Garros, calling their decision to disqualify Miyu Kato & Aldila Sutjiadi for unintentionally hitting a ball girl ‘a Bad decision’. Cornet felt the decision taken by the tournament to take their prize money was brash and unfair. She also felt that the decision was taken under the pressure of the doubles competitor Marie Bouzkova and Sara Sorribes Tormo. Miyu Kato & Aldila Sutjiadi were disqualified in the third round when Miyu sliced a ball not in play and it accidentally hit a ball girl who started crying.
Cornet spoke at length with L’Equipe a French daily, on this issue. “It’s unfair, it’s a bad decision. I hope the tournament will give her back her money,” talking about how the decision financially impacted both players. She felt that this was a clear example of bad refereeing. The whole incident has actually enraged the French player to no end. She expressed her anger in a candid and no-hold-bars manner. “When I think about it (the disqualification and forfeiting of prize money), it makes me want to break everything,” said Cornet.
Cornet, who is not playing at this year’s Roland Garros, said this was a bizarre incident and the injustice made her very disappointed. “It shouldn’t have happened. To be disqualified for that. She was crying,” said Cornet for Miyu Kato, who was crying after the disqualification.
Alize Cornet felt it was unjustified on the part of the opponents Maria and Sara to ask for the disqualification. She expressed her solidarity with Miyu on her Twitter issued apology. Cornet clearly spelled out how she felt everyone, except their competitors, are on the side of Kato and Sutjiadi.

Alize Cornet urges the tennis community to ask French Open to retract their decision
Highlighting the decision as ‘crazy’ and cried injustice, Cornet’s extreme anger at the decision was palpable throughout the interview. “I hate injustice. The referee really made a huge mistake. He was influenced by the other players.” Though the chair umpire had left the duo with a warning when the ball hit the ball kid, it was the opponents Marie Bouzkova and Sara Sorribes Tormo who asked for the disqualification of their Asian opponents.
Cornet went one step above just asking for the prize money back for the Asian Doubles pair. She even urged the tournament to apologize to the players. “The tournament should apologize to Kato. They disqualified her!,” said Cornet. This is not the first time Cornet has been disgruntled with the French Open. In 2022, she had accused the tournament of having tactical agreements with players to hide Covid cases amongst them.
She urged all French Press and the tennis world to voice her demand of redacting the French Open’s decision. She felt the players should get back at least their prize money. “We should all get together and tell the tournament… Tell them, ‘I hope you’re not going to take away her prize money,” concluded the enraged French woman.
