American actress Brooke Shields recollects the events of her ex-husband Andre Agassi’s crippling addiction to crystal meth

Andre Agassi, the 52-year-old American former tennis professional is widely regarded as one of the best tennis players of his time. With 8 grand slam titles to his name, Agassi made quite a name for himself and is hailed as a legend of tennis in this day and age. The American was often seen surrounded by controversies during his time as a player.

Agassi captured many headlines during the time he dated American actress Brooke Shields. In her biography ‘There Was a Little Girl’ Shields talked about how her ex-husband was addicted to crystal meth. She had a lot to say about the incident in the book back when it was released.

She wrote, “I was so unbelievably clueless. To this day, I think to myself ‘My God, Brooke. All you’ve seen in your life and you couldn’t pick this up?’ But if you watch these athletes play, they play five, six, seven hours at the highest level and they keep going and going and the regimen surrounding them is so intense that my justification was, I guess you need to blow off steam when you can.”

“He explained to me that for the first whole part of our relationship, he had been addicted to crystal meth, I was the one who had supported him unconditionally when he told me that he was basically bald and had been wearing hairpieces most of his adult life. Why should this have been any different?”
