Carlos Alcaraz has made a swift comeback after securing his second victory of the year. Winning the Indian Wells 2023 title has opened up new opportunities for the young player, as he now prepares to defend a major title on the ATP circuit for the first time. He climbed to the top of the ATP rankings just a year ago at the Hard Rock Stadium and is eager to retain his crown at the Miami Open 2023 by defending the scepter he won against Casper Ruud last season.

Despite the challenges ahead, Carlos Alcaraz remains highly motivated and confident. Riding on the positive momentum from his recent victory, the El Palmar native spoke to the media in Miami, including Puntodebreak and BPTENNISTV’s Juanqui Pardi. During the interview, he discussed several topics, such as his proficiency in executing drop shots, the changes in his game since his championship win in 2022, and the importance of balancing being a great person and a great player.

In that interview, Alcaraz shared his opinion about Andy Murray. He said “He is a magnificent player. He was always there, after all he is considered part of the Big Four. It is wonderful to watch him play, to learn from him off the court.” He also said Murray’s recent actions are incredibly inspiring, especially considering the surgery and uncertainty surrounding his ability to play. Carlos himself was so moved by Murray’s resilience that he felt compelled to reach out and express his admiration through a personal letter. He believes that Murray’s presence on the circuit is not only valuable but also provides an opportunity for others to learn from him.

Carlos Alcaraz is tired of the incessant comparisons being made between him and Rafael Nadal. The young tennis player expressed his dislike for such comparisons and hoped that people would not ask him about it as frequently as they currently do. Since his entry into professional tennis, Alcaraz has been continuously compared to his fellow Spaniard and tennis legend, Nadal.

Over the past few years, Alcaraz has achieved similar feats to those of Nadal, leading to further discussions about the comparisons between the two. Alcaraz’s recent victory at the Indian Wells tournament has only fueled these talks, as he became the second teenager since Nadal in 2005 to win at least three ATP Masters 1000 titles.

During a quick Q&A session, the 19-year-old Spanish tennis player was asked about the one question that annoys him the most. He said, “It’s not annoying, but I would say the comparison with Rafa,”. Although Alcaraz does not feel bothered by the constant comparisons with Nadal, he certainly hopes that people will stop asking him about it.
