Andrey Rublev and Jack Draper went head-to-head in the 2023 US Open’s Round-of-16 in an intense battle that finally saw the Russian player emerge on top in the end. It was a match filled with ups and downs, and Jack Draper gave the eighth seed of the tournament a hard time, and he deserves much credit for that.
Rublev is hands down one of the most competitive players in the tournament, and thus his frustration was clear during the match. Jack Draper dominated the second set and ended up winning it. Andrey Rublev was furious at himself when he gave away the crucial break point to Draper after an intense fight, and it was fully visible in his reaction.
After the match, Jack Draper was optimistic about the fact that he was finally going in the right direction. “But now I’m coming away having had four good matches in a Grand Slam, and I’m going home injury free. That’s a huge step in the right direction for me and the one thing for me now is to look after my body and make sure that I can end the year strong and just keep going,” he said, talking about a potential World No. 1 push in the near future.

Daniil Medvedev is way ahead in head-to-head stats. The two have played a total of seven matches against each other, out of which, Medvedev won five and Rublev won two. However, both of Andrey Rublev’s victories came fairly recently, so it would be unfair to rule that out. It is important to note that all their matches so far have been played on hard courts.
