Andrey Rublev talked about his constant quarter-final finishes at Grand Slams. Though the Russian has been in the top 10 consistently, his highest finish at a Grand Slam is the quarter-final. His best tournament in 2023 has been the Monte Carlo Masters, where he won the title defeating Holger Rune. However, Rublev is also the holder of an Olympic gold medal in the mixed doubles category at Tokyo 2020.
The Russian has revealed that the reason for these numbers was that he still has some weaker areas he needs to deal with. “Of course I would like to go further, to try to be in the semi-finals, but of four Grand Slams, three-quarter finals is the best I did,” said Rublev. While he is happy that he has made it to the quarter-final of three Grand Slams, he also believes that he has it within himself to provide better results. Rublev claimed that he had identified weaker areas in his game and is working on improving those areas.
“Physical-wise, I can be even faster. Most of the top 10 guys are faster than me,” Rublev admitted. He revealed that his speed was the biggest detriment to his game. The Russian also explained that he was now working on this as well as many other weak areas in order to improve his game.
While Rublev is currently the World No. 6, he still has many areas he needs to improve on. He has been giving a consistent performance. However, this will not suffice if the Russian wants to climb up the rankings. Rublev has admitted that he was well aware of this fact and was working on his weak areas in order to improve his game. For now, he has revealed that his goal is to make semi-final appearances at Grand Slams.
