Andrey Rublev stormed past Casper Ruud in the finals of the Nordea Open in straight sets. After reaching the finals of three ATP tournaments this season, this is the Russian’s first title of the season. The second seed outplayed the Norwegian in the finals, even handing a bagel in the second set.

Rublev and Ruud kept the fans entertained with their humorous post-match speeches. The former acknowledged the feats of his opponent, who has already made it to three Grand Slam finals. On the other hand, he joked about his poor record at Grand Slam tournaments.

“I don’t know if I’ll be able to speak as well as Casper, but I’ll try to say some good words… You made 3 Grand Slam Finals so hopefully the 1st GS is coming soon. It’s a really great achievement. You see I still didn’t even do SF yet,” said Rublev.

Andrey Rublev played some brilliant tennis over the week to lift his first title of the season. The Russian will now compete at the German Open next week, where he again enters as the second seed.

Rublev believes that Casper Ruud’s first Grand Slam title is just around the corner. The Norwegian recently lost in the finals of the 2023 French Open to Novak Djokovic in straight sets, which was his third appearance in the finals of a Major.

Meanwhile, Andrey Rublev joked that his Grand Slam performances have been pretty dismal, as he is yet to even make it to the semifinals. The Russian has made it to the quarterfinals on multiple occasions however; he has failed to go any further than that.

Casper Ruud has not had the best season on grass courts this time around, as he was knocked out in the second round of Wimbledon earlier this month. The top seed dominated his way into the finals at the Nordea Open. However, Andrey Rublev just proved to be too good for him on Sunday.
