Russian tennis professional Andrey Rublev is not one of the most cheerful players on the tour. In the past few years, he has talked about depression several times. In a couple of instances he had admitted mental health issuses as well. 

But in the press conference after his win over Botic van de Zandschulp in the ongoing Dubai Tennis Championships where is the defending champion, Rublev said something that lit up the crowd. He was asked about the name of his team and unexpectedly he forgot the name of some of the members.

“Fernando Vicente is the main coach like always and then second coach is Beto Martin,” Rublev answered. After that he listed his fitness coach and physio but failed to recall their names. “And then new fitness coach. I dont know his last name. His name is Marcos. And for physio the same story and don’t know his last name,” Rublev continued while bursting into laughter.

Andrey Rublev seals semifinals spot in the Dubai Tennis Championship

World No. 6 Andrey Rublev cruised past Botic van de Zandschulp to seal his semifinals spot in the ATP 500 event in Dubai. On course to his quarterfinal run, Rublev scored a remarkable win against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, coming from brink. Rublev rallied from 1/6 in the second-set tie-break before defeating his Spanish opponent in three sets.

It is the third tournament in a row in which Rublev saved match points to prevail eventually. “These matches, when they’re over, and somehow you win them, it’s always special,” said Rublev after the second-round win. “I have no words to describe it.”

“One time, maybe you feel lucky, you feel super tight and emotional because you almost lose, and somehow you win it. When it happens a third time, you think now there is no chance, it is impossible, now it’s over for sure.” In the semifinals in Dubai, Rublev will lock horns with Alexander Zverev who defeated Lorenzo Sonego in his quarterfinal clash.
