Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev said in a recent interview that he still feels young at heart. The World No. 5 is currently playing at ATP Rotterdam and he is set to face Felix Auger Aliassime in the second round of the tournament.
Ahead of that, he joked about having the mentality of a junior player and many of his fans will definitely agree with him.
Mentally, I feel like I’m still 16. So I don’t feel myself. I still feel like I’m a kid. I’ve got an athlete’s body and the mentality of a Junior, yes.Rublev via Tennis TV
Rublev is pretty well known for his anger on the court. In many instances, he has hurt himself due to his anger while hitting himself with his racket after missing points or losing sets. Many fans might find that characteristic of him fitting well with the childlike mentality that he claims to have. In that aspect, one might say that the Russian is on point.
Talking about his performance in the currently ongoing ATP Rotterdam, he defeated Zizou Bergs 7-5, 6-3 in straight sets in the first round of the tournament. With this, he has made it into the second round with ease. Rublev is the second seed in the tournament and he is one of the favorites to win the title after Jannik Sinner, who is playing his first tournament after winning his first Grand Slam in the 2024 Australian Open.
Andrey Rublev vs. Felix Auger-Aliassime head-to-head record
Andrey Rublev and Felix Auger Aliassime have played a total of four matches against each other. The Russian won three of those matches, while Auger-Aliassime won one. Thus, Rublev has a clear advantage in terms of head-to-head matches against the Canadian.
Andrey Rublev won the ATP Rotterdam in 2021 while Felix Auger Aliassime won it in 2022. Thus, both the players have a phenomenal record in the tournament.
Rublev has had a great run in his past few tournaments. He might have lost to Jannik Sinner recently in the quarterfinal of the 2024 Australian Open, but he had won the Hong Kong Open just before that. He also reached the semifinals of the Paris Masters but lost to Novak Djokovic despite winning the first set.
Felix Auger Aliassime, on the other hand, has only had a decent run in his past few tournaments. However, the ATP Rotterdam is his 5th tournament of 2024, which is three more than Andrey Rublev has played so far this year.
