Three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray has struggled to get back to his best since undergoing multiple hip surgeries. The former world number one has still shown a lot of resilience in his strive to go far in tournaments. After being out of the top 800 players, the Brit has made a comeback as the World No. 37, according to agamble.com. At Wimbledon last month, Murray came close to beating World No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round. Eventually losing in 5 sets, the two-time Wimbledon champion showed glimpses of his best.
In an interview to Express, former British No. 1 women’s player Johanna Konta backed her British counterpart to reach the second week at the US Open. Praising Murray’s playing style, Konta said, “I think especially for us with Andy, seeing him be able to be Andy on court because it was always his physicality, his tenacity on court, he just absolutely wrangles his way through matches in such a tough way.”
Sharing her optimism on Andy’s performance at the upcoming US Open, former World No. 4 remarked, “I think that he is in that space now to be able to do that and to do that successively in match after match, I don’t see why we wouldn’t see him potentially in the second week and then we’ll see what happens.” Andy Murray got in a controversy.
Konta said that Andy Murray has shown a lot of consistency recently. The former pro believes that this consistency would catalyze Murray’s chances of reaching the second week at the Flushing Meadows later this month.

Andy Murray has had a good 2023 season so far, picking up three Challenger tour titles. The Brit has improved his ranking to number 37 in the world. Johanna Konta believes that Murray is well on his way to fighting for more titles and pushing his ranking up even further.
Talking about Murray’s chances in future tournaments, Konta said, “I think whenever as a player you get just a good run of tournaments, a good run of matches in those tournaments, making quarters, semis, finals. That builds and that will build into either making second week in a Slam or winning a title.”
Recently, the former World No. 1 withdrew from the Cincinnati Masters due to an abdominal strain. Murray showed signs of optimism for his participation at the US Open as he was seen practicing in Cincinnati.
The 2-time Olympic Gold medalist had a decent run at the National Bank Open. Murray reached the round of 16, where he handed a walkover to Jannik Sinner due to abdominal issues. Murray would hope that his run in Montreal would serve as an ideal preparation for a deep run at the US Open later this month.
