Three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray has turned the clock back at the Australian Open 2023 with two fighting 5-setter wins in the first two rounds. Though the exhausted Briton lost in the third round against Roberto Bautista Agut, he has made his mark in the tournament. The consecutive five setters won in three days were the answer to those who asked what is left in the tank for Andy Murray, coming back to the tour with a metal hip.

Current World No.66 Andy Murray shared his feelings about how he sees his tennis future after the third-round loss, “I felt good about the way I was playing, it’s more enjoyable for me when I’m coming into a major event and believing I can do some damage. But, yeah, I can have a deeper run than a third round of a slam, there’s no question about that obviously, you can have draws open up for you but I also need to help myself with that.”

Murray continued how he feels about his game this year, “If I was playing this level last year, I probably wouldn’t be ranked 50 or 60 in the world so it’s up to me to try and change that.

Andy Murray has proved critics wrong

Andy Murray

Though the Australian Open 2023 campaign of Andy Murray ended in the third round, his short run has made the most magical moments of the tournament so far. The two epic five setters against Matteo Berrettini and Thanasi Kokkinakis will be remembered forever.  Roberto Bautista Agut was able to overcome the exhausted Briton in the third round in four sets, 1-6, 7-6 (9-7), 3-6, 4-6.

With the changed strategy of playing his natural shots after the hip injury comeback, the Briton is looking to be a contender for the top prize yet again. His endurance is still the same. He showed it at the Australian Open. The next Grand Slam, French Open, is not played on his natural favorite surface so Wimbledon is expected to be his Go-to Grand Slam this year. Players who can play well on grass courts are relatively low, this also fuels the chances of the two-time Wimbledon champion.

The 35-year-old’s magical run in the Australian Open was least expected by the fans. Murray was able to prove his critics wrong with his marathon victories playing with a metal hip.
