Andy Murray drops truth bomb over participation with Emma Raducanu in Mixed Doubles
Emma Raducanu, Andy Murray
Former world number 1, Andy Murray has returned to the grass courts after his unfortunate retirement from the Mutua Madrid Open 2022. He is currently in Stuttgart, hoping for a resurgence as the two-time Wimbledon Champion is looking to boost his rankings. Murray has shown some glimpses of his old self during some matches in 2022.
The old guard is looking to his peers for inspiration to perform at the highest level again. Murray is also expected to make a dream mixed doubles team with the number 1, British woman, Emma Raducanu. Raducanu has also been performing subpar in her singles matches, unlike Murray, her reason in not injuries. It’s more of pressure handling and some other technical problems of the game. Two-of the most popular British tennis players joining forces would be quite a spectacle for the spectators.
Andy Murray hopes this time around the partnership would come to fruition.
Raducanu is currently playing the WTA Nottingham Open and she is the second seed, so she would like to perform well, maybe make it to the final as this tournament might set her tone for the rest of the season. Murray too is currently, focussed on his singles performance, but is definitely excited about the prospects of playing doubles with Raducanu. Murray said:
“I would love to play with Emma at some stage. I’m sure we will both focus on having good runs in the singles, but yeah – I’d love to do that.”
Murray revelaed that there were also talks about such ventures in the last Wimbledon. But it didn’t move forward. He said: “Last year we talked about it, but we both ended up doing well in the singles.”
Murray hopes that this year they would be able to make the doubles team. For Raducanu, it would also be a great opportunity to learn from the former world number 1, on how to manage tough conditions during the match.
