With the grass season on, all eyes are on the UK as tennis pros prepare for the 2023 Wimbledon. One of the busiest names right now is former World No. 1 Andy Murray. The Briton chose to skip the clay season including the 2023 French Open to not risk any injury chances for the Championships. His decision has been fruitful with back-to-back Challenger titles.
Having won the title in Surbiton last week, Murray doubled it after beating Arthur Cazaux 6-4, 6-4 in the Nottingham Challenger finals. During his on-court interview, he spoke about celebrating Father’s Day when a big surprise came his way. His wife and kids were captured on camera waving for the three-time Major winner surprising him with their presence.
“I’m obviously pumped and looking forward to a day’s rest tomorrow. Hopefully, I’ll get back home and see my kids tonight for Father’s Day,” said Murray during his interview when he was interrupted by a loud cheer from his family.
“They’re here! I had no idea they were coming. They came last week for the finals in Surbiton and they turned up and it started raining. So, they had to go home for the kid’s bedtime and they missed the end of the match. It’s great they managed to come today,” added Murray buzzing with happiness.
Andy Murray thanks his family for their unwavering support despite his struggles
The struggles of Andy Murray are no more a surprise. The two-time Wimbledon winner continues to fight at the highest level with a metal hip. The 36-year-old underwent multiple surgeries when being at the peak of his form. The only player ever to defend his Olympics Gold, the Briton has not given up and still amazes fans with his exceptional play and big heart.
“My family has been unbelievably supportive of me continuing with my career when they could easily have told me to stop,” he added. “So, I really appreciate them still supporting me and trying to get me to keep going,” said Murray in Nottingham after his family’s surprise to him.
After a fortnight on the Challenger Tour, Murray now returns to the ATP Tour at the Queen’s Club. Despite his run, he is still a few places off from getting a seeding for the Championships and that would certainly be one of his goals for the next week. He will also feature in the doubles partnering compatriot Cameron Norrie.
