The British Legend Andy Murray had a tough time over the last four years as he had to manage injuries that led him to miss out on most of the seasons. However, he always found a way to return to the professional tennis circuit.

He had to undergo multiple hip surgeries and faced other injuries. This year he saw the 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer retiring from the sport due to a knee injury that stopped him from playing any further. Rafael Nadal too had to struggle against injuries throughout this season.

Recently, the 3-time Grand Slam champion in the latest interview hinted that he may not come back to professional tennis if he sustains another big injury.

“If my body is in good shape and I’m still able to compete consistently, I’ll keep playing. But I can’t look so far in advance with the age I’m at and with the issues I’ve had. If I was to have a big injury, I probably wouldn’t try to come back from that,” he said. He is ranked World No.49 in the ATP rankings. He is participating in the Battle of Brits tournament for Team Scotland.

Andy Murray will be playing in the Australian Open 2023

The Australian Open 2023 will be starting in less than a month. Andy Murray will be participating in the Australian Open for the 15th time in his career. He also reached the final 5 times. He last played the Championship match in the 2016 Australian Open. However, he has failed to win the title ever in his career. He is busy training with his coach Ivan Lendl to get himself ready in time for the first Grand Slam of the year.

“I spent three weeks in Florida, getting my body right and getting some work done on my game and it went really well. I’m certainly in better shape than I was. A lot of work was done in the gym, trying to build up my endurance and my stamina a bit and I’m hoping that’s going to help me next year,” he stated. He also continued his opinions about his performance on the court this season. He knows that he did not perform according to his expectations, however, he is optimistic about the future.

“I wasn’t happy with how last season went – certainly the last six months or so from a physical perspective – but my ranking still went from 125 to 50 in a year. I’m hoping that this year, with the work I’ve done, things will continue to improve and I’ll still be motivated to get out there and compete,” he further added.
