Andy Murray, the former world number one arrived to be in action at the Swiss Indoors. He hasn’t had much success throughout the season and will be looking to have a good run at the ATP 500 event in Switzerland since he will be playing for the first time in 17 years.
The 35-year-old Brit had a third-round exit at the US Open followed by a quarter-final finish at the Gijon Open. His best performance of the season has been at the Stuttgart Open where he reached the finals but lost to Matteo Berrettini despite not dropping a set throughout the tournament.
The 3-time Grand Slam champion funnily joked with Roger Federer upon arriving in Basel. He talked about the message he had sent to the Swiss maestro naming Swiss football midfielder Granit Xhaka as one of the greatest ever athletes. He ignored the 103 ATP titles winner’s legacy in favor of the Arsenal star extending his support for the North London club.
He said that “I messaged Roger when I landed in Basel and I said: ‘I just touched down in the city of one of the world’s greatest ever athletes: Granit Xhaka. I know that Granit Xhaka is from here, I’m a huge Arsenal fan. Xhaka is playing really, really well this season. He scored another wonderful goal in his last match.“

Andy Murray believes that he doesn’t deserve an astounding farewell like Roger Federer
Murray was part of Roger Federer‘s farewell tournament at the Laver Cup as he played his final match with his arch-rival Rafael Nadal. He spoke about the most emotional night in the history of tennis that left everyone numbed. He also claimed that he doesn’t deserve a grand farewell like the 20-time Grand Slam champion on his retirement day whenever he decides to take that route.
He also expressed his deepest gratitude towards the 8-time Wimbledon champion as he recalled the best memories. He spoke “I was feeling quite emotional because we were doing a lot of interviews and being asked a lot about the last 15 years of our careers. I never thought that much about this period in my life. It was bringing back a lot of memories.“
They had quite a rivalry on the court where the Brit has met 25 times with Federer leading 14–11. They had played against each other at Wimbledon in 2015 for the last time where the 6-time Australian Open champion defeated him in straight sets.
