Former World No.1 Andy Murray expressed that Novak Djokovic will not stop at 24 Grand Slams. He also admitted that the younger players are not playing at the level they need to be at in order to defeat the Serb. The former World No.1 claimed that though the younger players are quite good and are playing the best game they can at the moment, they need to be quite consistent at their highest level in order to beat the likes of Djokovic.

With the Serb’s Wimbledon defeat against 20-year-old Carlos Alcaraz, tennis fans predicted a ‘Changing of the Guard’ in tennis. They all thought it was an out with the old, in with the new situation. However, Djokovic thrashed these beliefs while proving everyone wrong at the US Open 2023. Flushing Meadows saw a stellar performance from Djokovic, one which would challenge the youngest of players. Djokovic became the oldest US Open champion at the 2023 edition of the tournament.

Murray added, “I said that after Wimbledon, everyone was saying it was a changing of the guard, but it wasn’t for me. “ He explained that Djokovic had won two of the first three slams, and the Wimbledon final was very close. “It’s up to the young guys to be pushing Novak and looking to overtake him. It doesn’t look like that’s close to happening, “ he added.

“I don’t think he’s going to stop at 24 titles, but you never know how long it will last, “ said Andy Murray as he predicted many more laurels for the 36-year-old. He also said that it was up to whether players like Alcaraz improve from now on. The Scotsman explained that the young Spaniard is an extraordinary player. However, it took a whole new amount of grit to do what Novak has been doing consistently for a long time.

Following his disappointment at the US Open 2023, Murray has expressed his ‘big motivation’ for his participation in the Davis Cup. The Briton will be accompanied by compatriots Cameron Norrie, Dan Evans, Jack Draper and Neal Skupski.

Murray held his apprehensions to represent his nation after his early exit at the US Open. However, he was quick to accept when called on by Captain Leon Smith. He also revealed that he always felt extra inspiration when it came to representing his country.

Though the Briton has had his fair share of success in tennis, he has seen a few dull years in the recent past. The three-time Grand Slam champion has struggled the past few years, especially after his injury and surgery. However, he is back on the mend and is currently ranked 41st in the World.
