Andy Murray suffered yet another disappointing defeat today, this time in the Shanghai Masters against Roman Safiullin of Russia. During the match, which he lost by a clear distinction of 3-6, 2-6, Andy Murray had some frustrating moments, and that included losing one of the points of the tournament at the beginning of the second set.
Unlike in other matches where Andy Murray usually starts off well and gets tired or loses momentum by the end of it, in this one, Roman Safiullin dominated him all throughout. He won the first set 6-3, and although it seemed like Andy Murray was slowly upping his game at the beginning of the second set, Safiullin won the second set by an even better margin.
The ‘point of the tournament’ in concern was lost by Andy Murray in the fourth game of the second set when Safiullin was on break point. After a brilliant rally that was contested by both players valiantly and went on for 30 seconds, Andy Murray unfortunately hit the net and let out an agonizing scream out of frustration.
Commenting on the video, fans from across the world opined that Andy Murray’s career is done and he should just retire already. He is clearly not up there with the other players as far as physicality is concerned and lacks behind in many other things too. Some said that the Brit was just ‘dragging himself’ after a wonderful career, and it is indeed sad to see.
Andy Murray’s unfortunate downfall

Andy Murray has three Grand Slams to his name, and during his prime, he was compared to the very best of the game, i.e., Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal. However, he had one of the most injury-cursed careers in the world of tennis, and that led to his extremely sad downfall.
Murray reached his peak in 2016, which was the year he pushed himself to his limits. An extremely successful but exhaustive season in 2016 took a massive toll on him. He won his third Grand Slam at Wimbledon that year and also won an Olympic gold medal. He also won the Beijing, Shanghai, Cincinnati, Paris, and Vienna Opens that year. Thus, it was a dream run for any player.
Unfortunately, it took a toll on his body, and the Brit could not replicate this success in the following year. He bowed out early in the 2017 Australian Open, and his four-and-a-half-hour clash against Stan Wawrinka in the French Open semi-final was the final coffin of his nail, as after that, his hip injury worsened and back-to-back injuries plagued his career forever.
