2003, the year when an American won the US Open for the very last time—Andy Roddick beat the then-favorite Roger Federer had beaten Roddick in their previous meeting, so he obviously had an advantage; however, Roddicks caused a major upset by beating the legendary Federer in the 2003 US Open. It was an amazing match that was neck and neck, but Roddick had done the unthinkable and beat Federer to win the US Open.
Since then, he has retired from tennis and ventured into the field of business. In one interview, Andy said that he threw away all his trophies, including the US Open title. “I thought, I don’t really need these,” said Andy. He further continued, “Anyone who’s in our house kind of knows what I did,” and that it was just a phase of his life and now that phase is over.
This news came as a surprise to many people, but at the same time, this decision seems understandable. Andy has confirmed that he has lost many of his past titles and doesn’t want to be reminded of his past successes. However, as of now, he has the US Open runner-up trophy, which he uses to serve drinks.

American sports figure Andy Roddick is the last American to win the US Open, and he is well aware of this fact. He proudly said that he is “the most benefited person from one win, ever,” and any other American who wins the US Open “wouldn’t be as well-known as he is today.”
Andy has since become an investor and settled down in the field of business. Once, Roddick was number one for well over 13 weeks but then came the wave of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic that hit him so hard that first place was irretrievable. However, despite his retirement, Andy remains a popular sporting figure in American sports.
