Fans react to Tennis Australia’s decision to charge for practice matches
The decision to charge spectators for the practice and qualifier match comes in the wake of the poor financial conditions of Tennis Australia. This is the part of what Tennis Australia boss Craig Tiley described the Australian Open as the ‘three-week-extravaganza’ earlier. The players including Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios have agreed to participate in the organized practice matches.
Tiley earlier revealed the future plan to recoup the losses due to covid restrictions in the past couple of years. The plan is targeted at attracting a glowing response from the fans. “This is a part of our initiative of a three-week festival of tennis … this is year one, and as we go on we’ll grow it as a content week. This a journey we are going to go on,” Tiley said.
But as far as the fans are concerned, they are not amused by the changes. Most of them were unwilling to pay for the ‘practice matches’ between Djokovic and Kyrgios “Are you guys really this short of cash?” one of the fans responded to the invitation. Here are some other Tweets.
