In the expanding world of tennis, not every player on the Tour is as well known as the top players who have made headlines. Even if some players make a few long strides into the game, they still do not get noticed by the organization and are not credited for their hard work.

Recently, Australian experienced player Arina Rodionova expressed her harsh feelings towards the Australian organizations, terming them “biased.”

The 34-year-old has worked hard to dominate the lower ranks of the ITF and make it close to the top 100 of the WTA Tour. She came back from a wrist injury to win seven titles and 78 matches altogether in 2023, bumping her ranking to almost the top 100.

Rodionova has always shown the Australian organizers her potential at the 2017 Wimbledon, being the only Australian to make it to the second round and recently beating other players.

Despite her hard-fought effort, the 34-year-old failed to receive a wildcard from the organizers, and she is upset about it.

I don’t even know how to justify the reasoning behind it. I had a great year. I’ve done everything I possibly could to deserve it. They just don’t like me simply. It’s not about the money It’s more about the opportunity. I didn’t really have an issue with them not giving it to me. More of an issue was that they left it for so long and they pretended that they were looking at the results in Brisbane.

195-ranked Daria Saville received the wildcard entry despite being a way lower rank than her fellow teammate Rodionova.

I had the best result there [of the Australian women], so I don’t think they were looking at that. The decision was probably made before. They didn’t want to give it to me, and they should have announced it way before because it just brought such unnecessary stress to myself. It’s disrespectful towards players … they should tell us a month before.

Arina Rodionova fires shots at the Australian Open organizers for delaying their wildcard winners

After many weeks of constant observation, the Australian Open finally gave away their last wildcard entry to the main draw of the Australian Open to the very talented Daria Saville.

However, this decision was not taken well by another Russian-born Australian, Arina Rodionova, who had poured in blood, sweat, and tears for the sport but didn’t get the results. Despite being almost 90 ranks higher than Daria, she failed to cut and was also fined for snubbing.

Nonetheless, she remains furious about the decision taken by the organizers. Furthermore, the Australian was upset about the selectors delaying their process unnecessarily.

She is currently one of the top-ranked Australian women who has been overlooked by the selectors. Despite a great year, the Australian failed to earn herself a wildcard entry to the Australian Open. To add to her misery, she also lost her qualifying match against Leolia Jeanjean, eliminating her chances to play the Slam.
