Aryna Sabalenka has revealed that she would go out for a drink after a staggering loss to America’s teen sensation Coco Gauff in the US Open final. After her disappointment at the US Open 2023 final, the Belarusian said in a press conference that she didn’t mind a drink after that hard loss.
Following her heart-crushing loss against the 19-year-old, Sabalenka was absolutely dismayed. Her campaign for a maiden US Open title came to an end. Things looked promising for the Australian Open champion, considering her main competition, Iga Swiatek, was out of the contest. However, Coco Gauff simply proved that she had the better hand at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
When asked if being No.1 when the rankings are recalculated has any changes on how she reflected on the night, she had quite the response. “That’s why I’m not like super depressed right now. I’m definitely going for a drink tonight, “ she laughed. She also joked that she knew that they were athletes. Yet, she will still be having a drink, even if it is just a little bit.
Aryna Sabalenka, despite her disappointment, still came out of the bright side of the tunnel. With Iga Swiatek’s loss in the fourth round of the tournament, this will automatically push the Belarusian to World No.1 on Monday.
Aryna Sabalenka was in tears talking about family post-disappointment against Coco Gauff
Sabalenka faced loss against Coco Gauff in the US Open final. The Belarusian has been a force to be reckoned with in Grand Slam events this year. With a maiden Slam at the Australian Open and consecutive semi-final finishes, Sabalenka has indeed proved her worth in tennis Majors.
Hence, and understandably, Sabalenka couldn’t control herself after the tough defeat at the US Open. The World No. 2 was unable to contain her emotions when discussing her family during the on-court interview. “I just want to send a lot of love to my family. They have been awake and watching. Sorry for this result,” she said, her eyes welling up with tears. Nevertheless, she swiftly composed herself and joked about the possibility of dismissing her entire team following this defeat.
The tables were tipped the other way in the Flushing Meadows. It was Coco Gauff who came out as the better player in the coveted night. Although the American was down a set, she came in a clutch to take the next two sets. This ultimately led her to the title.
Nevertheless, both players played their very best tennis. While both players put all of it on the court, only one could go back victorious. This year, it was Coco Gauff, who had clinched her maiden Grand Slam title.
