World No. 29 Frances Tiafoe received a first round bye and was up against Taro Daniel in the second round. Tiafoe beat Daniel with great comfort and ease despite losing a single set and wrapped the match in straight sets. In the first set,Tiafoe held three break points in the ninth game but failed to take great advantage of it. He then secured a break of serve in the following game and easily won the first set. Tiafoe eventually won the match by a 7-5, 6-4 win and booked his place in the quarterfinals.

On the other hand, Brandon Nakashima was up against John Millman after a first round victory against Jordan Thompson. Neither Nakashima nor Millman could manage to break serve in the first set, and the first set had to be decided over a tie-breaker. After a nerve wrecking tie breaker, Nakashima finally bagged the first set. The second set was easier compared to the first set and Millman couldn’t test Nakashima and finally the 20-year-old won the match with a 7-6 (8), 6-4 win.
