World No. 25 John Isner received a bye in the first round and then had to face Ben Shelton in the second round tie with none of them getting close to a break point in the first set and had to be decided by a tie breaker. Shelton gave the experienced Isner a tough test who had to toil hard to finally clinch the set on his fourth opportunity. Shelton showed great character in the second set and came back to win the set. The youngster kept on pushing to the end but Isner came out on top in the third set that was decide by a tie breaker and ended the match with a 7-6(8), 4-6, 7-6(3) win.
On the other hand, Jenson Brooksby was up against Benoit Paire in the first round and won the match comfortably which was followed by the second round matchup against Mackenzie McDonald. It was an easy win for Brooksby as he didn’t have to toil hard for the victory with managing to win the match without dropping as single set. He sealed the match and ensured his place in the quarter finals with an easy 6-3, 6-4 win.
