Carlos Alcaraz vs. Alexander Zverev: Match Preview

Wimbledon winner Carlos Alcaraz has played at only 17 events this season. The World No. 2 has been selected to play at the season-ending ATP Finals for the first time ever. Alcaraz played his last match at the Bercy Open, where he lost his first match to unseeded Russian pro Roman Safiullin. After claiming a performance bye for the first round, due to his participation in Shanghai, Alcaraz lost his Round of 32 match with a score of 3-6, 4-6.

At the Shanghai Masters, the Spaniard lost in his third-round clash to Grigor Dimitrov over three sets. Dimitrov demolished 20-year-old Alcaraz with a 7-5, 2-6, 4-6 win over him. Alcaraz made the semi-finals in Beijing, where he suffered a 6-7, 1-6 defeat at the hands of eventual title-winner Jannik Sinner.

On the other hand, World No. 8 Alexander Zverev has competed in 26 tournaments this season. At the recently concluded Paris Masters, the German was ousted from the event after he incurred a 6-7, 4-6 loss against Stefanos Tsitsipas in his Round of 16 match. The 26-year-old, however, made the quarterfinals in Vienna but lost the match to third-seeded Andrey Rublev. Prior to this, at the China Open, the German ace lost the semi-finals to Daniil Medvedev.

The upcoming match at the ATP Finals between 2021 champ Alexander Zverev and Spanish ace Carlos Alcaraz will mark the duo’s third clash in 2023. The German will be on the lookout to exact his revenge on Alcaraz in their upcoming clash. Though Alcaraz has played in a few tournaments this season, the 20-year-old is expected to secure a third win over Zverev this year in his next match.

Match Prediction: Carlos Alcaraz to win in three sets.
