Jannik Sinner vs. Novak Djokovic: Match preview
Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner beat World No.6, Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets to set himself up against Novak Djokovic. At the Masters event in Paris, Sinner pulled out of the tournament before his Round of 16 match against Alex De Minaur, thanks to the terrible schedule of the matches. Sinner has had a spectacular season so far. Last month, the 22-year-old clinched titles at both the Opens in Beijing as well as Vienna, ousting World No.3, Daniil Medvedev in both of the Finals.
On the other hand, Novak Djokovic beat eighth seed, Holger Rune in the opener with a 7-6, 6-7, 6-3 victory in just over three hours of on-court exchange across the net. The Serb has had a phenomenal run this season as well. He claimed three of the four Grand Slam titles this year and has guaranteed himself a #1 finish for the eighth time in his career. Fresh from his title win in Bercy, Djokovic stands undefeated for he has won every match since his loss against World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz in the Finals at Wimbledon, earlier this year.
Jannik Sinner vs. Novak Djokovic: Match prediction
The Serbian ace, Novak Djokovic leads China Open winner, Jannik Sinner, 3-0 in the duo’s head-to-head. The players faced each other in the semi-final round at Wimbledon earlier this year where Djokovic ousted the Italian pro in straight sets. Djokovic scored 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 against Sinner to earn himself a ticket to the Finals against Carlos Alcaraz.
Before that, the duo had locked horns in the quarter-final round at Wimbledon back in 2022 in an epic five-setter. Though the Italian claimed the first two sets, Djokovic made a fierce comeback in the third one. Ultimately, the Serb won the match 5-7, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2, and went on to claim the Grand Slam.
Both Djokovic and Sinner have had an excellent season in 2023. Both of them are currently in great form. However, given their head-to-head and record of previous match wins, the Serbian stands a greater chance of beating his opponent in his upcoming match.
Match Prediction: Novak Djokovic to win over three sets.
