Alex de Minaur vs Aslan Karatsev: Match Preview
Alex de Minaur arrives into the clash on the back of an impressive showing against Diego Schwartzman in the second round, scoring a bagel in the first set. The world no.13 defeated the Argentine pro 6-0,7-5 in 1 hour and 30 minutes to book his spot in the quarter-final. With the win, de Minaur levelled Aussie legend Lleyton Hewitt’s record of reaching 10 tour-level quarter-finals in a season. The Aussie has improved his year win/loss record to 41/22.
The 24-year-old will be looking forward to confirming his spot in the ATP Finals to be played in Turin, Italy. Currently, he is 550 points behind eighth-placed Holger Rune, who occupies the final qualification spot. The Aussie will need a deep run at the tournament to confirm his spot in the year-end championships for the first time in his career.
de Minaur won his first career ATP 500 title at the Mexican Open in Acapulco earlier this year. At the 2023 National Bank Open, he reached his first Masters 1000 final losing to Jannik Sinner in straight sets.
Meanwhile, Karatsev got the better of Chinese pro Zhizhen Zhang for the second time this year to reach the quarter final. The 30-year-old defeated Zhang 6-3,6-4 to get his 20th tour-level win of the year. Earlier this year, he reached the semi-final of a Masters tournament for the first time in his career in Madrid by getting the better of Zhang in the quarter-final encounter.
Alex de Minaur vs Aslan Karatsev: Match Prediction
Alex de Minaur heads into the clash as the heavy favorite on the back of his form. Karatsev would have to bring his ‘A’ game on the serve if he has to stand a chance of winning against the high-flying Aussie. The world no.13 would fancy his chances on extended rallies owing to his deadly groundstrokes.
Match Prediction: Alex de Minaur to win in 3 sets.
