Rafael Nadal staged a comeback this season after a career-threatening foot injury and won the Melbourne Summer Set on return. He then backed it up by winning a record 21st major title at Melbourne. He then traveled to Acapulco to play the Mexican Open and won the title without dropping a set. Nadal finished runner-up at the Indian Wells Masters but was formed to skip the Miami Masters due to a hairline rib fracture. The Madrid Masters will be his first clay-court tournament of the season.

Miomir Kecmanovic has had a standout season so far. He made it to the fourth round of the Australian Open before making it to the quarterfinal of the Rio Open and backed it up with another last 8 outing at Chile. He also reached back-to-back quarterfinals at Indian Wells and Miami and then finished in the last 8 on home soil. At the Bavarian International, he made it to the semifinal where he lost to Botic van de Zandschulp.

Rafael Nadal vs Miomir Kecmanovic: Prediction

Rafael Nadal
Rafael Nadal

Nadal will enter as the favorite to win despite his injury status. The Spaniard owns the surface and has done almost everything possible on clay. As always, he is the favorite to win the tournament but he will be wary of Kecmanovic’s recent form. The Serb has raised his game and is now beating the very best in the world. Expect a good match with Nadal making it to the next round.

Prediction: Nadal to win in three sets.
