Holger Rune has already started making name for himself on the ATP tour with his wins here and there. His biggest win of this season came against Alexander Zverev in the second round at this event. He defeated the World No.3, 6-3, 6-2 in front of Zverev’s home crowd. That win against the German gave Rune a lot of confidence as he has played some sublime tennis this week and is a very strong contender to bag his first ATP title. After beating Zverev, Rune got the better of Emil Ruusuvuori in the quarterfinals. He continued his beautiful form in the win against local star Oscar Otte to progress to the finals. The Dane who recently turned 19 is yet to drop a set in Munich.

On the other hand, not many people expected Botic van de Zandschulp to reach the finals in Munich. The Dutchman started his campaign with a fine win over Miami Open finalist Casper Ruud and followed it up with another comeback win over Serbian youngster Miomir Kecmanovic. Van de Zandschulp was a set down but he held his nerves and came back with a very strong character to win 2-6, 7-6(4), 6-4 and progress to his first ATP finals.

Danish youngster Holger Rune and experienced Dutchman, Va de Zandschulp will go up against each other for the first in the finals of the ATP Munich 2022. This is also the first ATP finals for both players.

Holger Rune is a fine mover through the court and has been very strong on both wings. The Danish youngster has used the drop shot with great precision. His service is pretty strong and will help him earn points in the finals. But it is his drop shot that creates a lot of questions in his opponent’s mind. The dip on his drop shot allows him to use it as a vicious weapon whenever his opponent is trying to get a rhythm from the baseline.

Botic van de Zandschulp has been a fighter on court, he has not been exceptional with his serves but he is pretty good with his returns. He kept pushing Kecmanovic back with his great returns. Van de Zandschulp won 46% of his return points and broke the serve six times. He can dictate the play from the baseline and can take advantage of court positioning.
