The South American leg of the ATP Tour 2023 is underway. After an action-packed week in Argentina, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is the next stop for all male tennis players. Tennis fans too are flocking to the colorful city of Rio de Janeiro to witness some incredible performances from the best male tennis players on the court.

This is the ninth edition of the Rio Open. The matches will be played on outdoor clay courts from February 20 to February 26, 2023. The venue for this tournament is the Jockey Club Brasileiro. This event is part of the ATP Tour 500 series and is the only ATP Tour 500 event in Latin America and the only ATP Tour event in Brazil. Hence, the excitement for this tournament will be higher.

The Rio Open was first played in 2014, and since then it has become a regular feature of the ATP Tour. It has been held every year since in the month of February, except in 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions. Both the singles events and doubles events are on the schedule for tennis fans to experience great tennis action for the next seven days.

Rafael Nadal won the first singles event in 2014. Carlos Alcaraz is the current champion in the singles events. The all-Colombian pair of Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah were the champions in the doubles event for the inaugural edition of the tournament. The all-Italian pair of Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini are the current champions.

This year, many prolific male tennis players will be poured into this part of the world to compete in the 2023 ATP Rio Open. The winner of this year’s Rio Open singles event will take home a hefty check of $376,620 while the winning doubles pair will take home $123,710. 500 points in each event are also on offer.

The return of Carlos Alcaraz has heated up the competition and increased the excitement among tennis fans. He is seeded #1 coming into this tournament, following his success at Argentina Open. Besides him, Cameron Norrie, Lorenzo Musetti, Francesco Cerundolo, and Diego Schwartzman, amongst others are also part of the exciting singles draw.

The doubles draw is also equally exciting. Top doubles players such as Rafael Matos, David Vega Hernandez, Juan Sebastian Cabal, and Marcelo Melo, among others, will also take part in this competition.
