Alexander Zverev vs Andrey Rublev: Preview

Germany’s Alexander Zverev has been making his comeback this year after he was forced to withdraw from the tour due to an injury. Following an incredible two seasons in 2021 and 2022, he was truly on a roll playing the best game of his career. However, this form came to an end when he injured his ankle in the French Open semi-final match against Rafael Nadal. After being off the tour for nearly a year, he made a comeback in 2023. While he has not been playing at that level, he has certainly made quite the comeback.

Andrey Rublev on the other hand has been on quite the roll himself. He made it to the quarter-final of all Grand Slams except at the French Open where he was knocked out in the third round by Lorenzo Sonego in a five-set thriller. He also won the title at the Monte Carlo Masters, which was also his first Masters 1000 title. His most recent accomplishment is at the Shanghai Masters, where he reached the final. However, he was defeated by Hubert Hurkacz.

Alexander Zverev vs Andrey Rublev: Match prediction

Former World No. 2 Zverev has been playing quite a consistent game this year. While he is no stranger to victory, the German has had a dry spell this year. However, his best performance at a Grand Slam was at the French Open, where he reached the semi-final for the third consecutive year. He also made a semi-final appearance at the Cincinnati Masters. However, with five Masters 1000 titles and an Olympic singles medal to his name, he is the opponent to watch out for.

Rublev on the other hand, is also an owner of the Olympic Gold medal. However, his victory came in the mixed doubles category. But apart from that, he has had a stellar season this year. With a first Masters 1000 event title, Rublev truly hit it off this season. He had won two ATP Titles this year, compared to Zverev’s none. However, he had appeared in six finals this year. While Zverev dominated their head-to-head record with a staggering 5-2, it looks as if Rublev will be handed the perfect opportunity to close the difference.

Match Prediction: Rublev to win in three sets
