Sinner’s best match came against the defending champion Novak Djokovic. Continuing his streak of not losing a set, the Italian put the World no.1 on the back foot from the get-go and eventually caused a huge upset to enter his maiden Grand Slam final.

Meanwhile, the mastermind Medvedev reached the Australian Open finals for the third time in his career. After fighting his way through the rounds, Medvedev faced a huge scare in the semi-finals. Coming back from two sets down, the Russian displayed his capabilities as he won against Alexander Zverev in five sets to book the date against Sinner.

Daniil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner have faced each other nine times before this. The World No.4 has only won three of his nine meetings with Medvedev. Their last few encounters took place in the finals of various ATP tournaments. In 2023, both the top-ranked players played each other in 4 finals with two wins each.

However, Sinner won in their latest encounter at the ATP Finals semi-finals. Winning a 5 set tournament is a whole different ball game than the usual three-setters. Keeping that in mind, Medvedev has had more finals appearances than Sinner and has also won a Grand Slam. 

Whereas, this is Sinner’s first ever Grand Slam finals, and may not have the same experience as his opponent entering the grand stage. While Sinner has proved his capabilities time and again, playing in finals requires immense mental strength.
