Elena Rybakina, the 23-year-old Moscow-born Kazakhstani player won her maiden major title at the 2022 Wimbledon finals after defeating Ons Jabeur by 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. She became the first Kazakhstani player ever to win a major title, Rybakina powered her way through to the finals and displayed the same level of performance in the finals as the rest of the tournament which saw her lift the title.

Currently ranked number 23 in the WTA rankings, Rybakina’s triumph at Wimbledon will only take her to new heights and that is what is in store for her according to the Kazakh. Rybakina played some sensational tennis throughout the tournament and had the whole world at her feet.

Elena Rybakina took part in a Q&A with Adidas Tennis where she talked about her goals for the future and how she could not believe the moment that she had won a Grand Slam, beating the current world number five Ons Jabeur was no easy task for Rybakina, but yet another amazing performance from the Kazakh proved to be too good for Jabeur to come back from.

Rybakina, in the Q&A, said, “My next goal is to win another Grand Slam and first reach the top 10, top 5 and eventually be the number one ranked player in the world,” after her sensational displays in the 2022 Wimbledon, her career trajectory is only bound to go up and it would be of no surprise to anyone if she is able to win more Grand Slams in the future and eventually achieve the number 1 rank in the WTA.

With the controversies around her nationality due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, it is even more commendable that Rybakina was able to overcome all of that to be crowned as the champion.
