The quarterfinals of the US Open couldn’t have gotten any better as two Americans faced off against each other in a late-night match at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. Frances Tiafoe faced off against the young Ben Shelton. Tiafoe was seeded 10th in the tournament but lost to his fellow teammate in four sets. 

“I feel like I left it all out here tonight. Emotional battle,” said Shelton in his post-game on-court interview. Fans could see the fire burning in Ben’s eyes as the match went on and finally, that is what got him across the line. An elated Shelton thanked the audience for staying up late and said that the battle was a“ hot one.”

The 20-year-old Ben has been having an amazing season and he couldn’t be any happier as he becomes the youngest American to reach the Semifinals of the US Open. Frances had a long run and played amazingly well against Shelton, but he was unable to overcome the youngster’s powerful serves and even stronger forehands. The final score was 6-2,3-6,6(7)-7(9),2-6 with Shelton winning the match and advancing to the next round.
