Stefanos Tsitsipas and Big-3
Stefanos Tsitsipas is a Greek professional tennis player who has been ranked as high as world No. 3 by the ATP, making him the highest-ranked Greek player in history. Tsitsipas was the champion at the 2019 ATP Finals, becoming the youngest winner of the year-end championships in eighteen years. He has won nine ATP singles titles including two Masters 1000 championships and appeared in a major final at the 2021 French Open, which he lost to Novak Djokovic. He is also a three-time semifinalist at the Australian Open.
The world No. 4 has a total number of 9 career titles to his name and he has a 230-109 win-loss record in ATP Tour and Grand slam main draw matches, also in Davis Cup. Tsitsipas missed four grand slams by close margins when the Greek reached three semi-finals in the Australian Open (2019,2021,2022) and One final in French Open 2021. The Greek last played in the round match of Wimbledon where he lost against Nick Kyrgios in a heated match where the two exchanged abusive words with one another. Tsitsipas lost the game in four sets by 7-6, 4-6, 3-6, 6-7.

In a recent interview, Stefanos Tsitsipas spoke about life on Tour during the pandemic, the Big Three and competition. When he was asked whether the competition with big-3 has become tougher…he said, “I think we’re getting closer to them. Of course, they were the best generation of players in history, so it was not easy to make a breakthrough. But it was they who helped all of us raise the level of the game and reach a new level”
Then he was asked whether they will continue to win or not. He answered, “Novak is one of the leaders. Nadal is back and taking titles again. Of course, they can win.”
It is tough to say if any of the big-3 is done from tennis as whenever someone hints in that way, they come up with another grand slam. Novak Djokovic has now won 21 majors in his career which put him only one short of Rafael Nadal and also takes him one ahead of Roger Federer in the total no. of grand slams. Novak is the youngest of all and is currently in good shape, which tells us that he can dominate the race. Roger who is 40 years old still wants to complete and we will see that at the end of this year’s Laver Cup. It’s tough to say that Swiss International can go ahead of the other two. Nadal is 36 years old and is currently leading the race with 22 major titles. He is also nowhere near finished as the Spaniard has won already won two slams this year and could be the third in the next month, who knows?
