“Another Grand Slam would be nice,” Bianca Andreescu reveals her goals for the 2023 season

After a few seasons of struggling with both form and fitness, Bianca Andreescu is motivated to win important tournaments in the 2023 season. She has got only one Grand Slam title under her belt, i.e., the US Open 2019 women’s singles title at the age of 19. Since then, she is finding it difficult to maintain her fitness at a peak level.
She had to miss most of the 2020, 2021, and 2022 seasons because of injuries. She also missed the Australian Open, Miami Open, and Indian Wells Open because of an injury. Moreover, even after coming back to theย WTAย season, she was not able to compete well against the top seeds.
But season 2023 has ignitedย her new hopes. Eminent sports journalist Mario Boccardi shared an excerpt from Bianca Andreescu’s statement on social media.
“Bianca Andreescu: “Another Grand Slam would be nice, another 1000, staying healthy, playing the whole year. I donโt think Iโve had like a full year playing all the tournaments. I think that should be number 1 right now. And cracking the Top 10 again, I believe Iโm at that level,” his caption read.
Bianca Andreescu is currently participating in the Adelaide International 1 tournament as an ideal preparatory ground for the 2023 Australian Open. In her first match of the tournament, she defeated 2-time Grand Slam champion Garbine Muguruza 0-6, 7-6, 6-1. She will take on World No.9 Veronika Kudermetova in the second round.

Challenges before Bianca Andreescu in the upcoming season

Canadian is ranked No.46 in the world. In order to win a Grand Slam title or aย WTAย tournament, she has to play and win against some of the top seeds. Iga Swiatek dominated the 2022 season. She would love to repeat her successes this year as well. Beating her would require great resilience on the part of Bianca Andreescu.
Ons Jabeur, Jessica Pegula, Caroline Garcia, and Aryna Sabalenka, among others, will continue to pose challenges for the 22-year-old. Also, beating veterans such as Victoria Azarenka and Petra Kvitova will be tough. She needs to find winning strategies against all of them. Also, she needs to improve her fitness.
After winning her career’s first and only Grand Slam title in 2019, she has not been able to impress. These mental agonies can hamper her performance on the court. Her new coach, Christophe Lambert, has a big task cut out in front of him.
