The former world No.1, Boris Becker finally speaks in an interview and gives his opinion on various current affairs of the sport. Speaking to the Eurosport, the German talked about the following of Big-3 and how they have created an impact on everyone. He also spoke about recent Djokovic’s record and spoke highly of him. A few other topics he touched on were Alexander Zverev and Andy Murray.

Becker is still the youngest winner of men’s singles in Wimbledon. He won the Grand Slam title at the age of 17 in 1985. The 55-year-old has been in various controversies lately and came out of jail recently. He had also been the coach to Novak Djokovic and the duo went on to win the 2016 Roland Garros title. After a series of incidents that affected his personal life, he recently came out and spoke to the team of Eurosport.

Speaking about the popularity of the Big-3, Becker said, “I think that Djokovic, along with Nadal and Federer, go beyond being sporting icons, they are cultural icons. Each of them could perfectly be the president of their respective countries, they have followers that go far beyond their respective countries: Serbia, Spain and Switzerland.”

He further added and said, “The impact they have on tennis is huge, we will only truly understand it when they retire. God willing, I hope Novak and Rafa play for at least a couple more years as we will all benefit from that, not just tennis but sport in general.”

Boris Becker talks about Andy Murray and Alexander Zverev

Boris Becker commented on Zverev’s physical resistance after watching him in the Davis Cup. Becker thinks that he is close to returning to 100% and advises him to continue playing in tournaments, as physical recovery can only be achieved through competing. Becker also wished to see Zverev arrive on the clay court tour with many games under his belt. He also encouraged the 25-year-old to focus on winning the next match or tournament instead of thinking about the time left.

Becker further went on to compliment Andy Murray on his remarkable comeback and said that he didn’t believe it to happen. He further said, “Seeing how he fights against all the opponents, how he is able to run through three sets, the great tennis that he is serving, even against Medvedev in the last final. He’s legendary, the Brit is doing it again, if he keeps it up I’m looking forward to Wimbledon.”

In the same interview, the six-time Grand Slam title champion discussed the best rivalry in the history of the sport, the chance of Novak winning a Golden Slam. He also talked about the Serbian’s achievement of breaking Steffi Graf’s record for the longest time in the No.1 position and lauded him.
