Jailed former tennis star Boris Becker is to be deported from jail in England to Germany in time for Christmas. He has been approved for a fast-track scheme under which the UK Government now allows prisoners to walk free of jail if they sign the deportation agreement. This can cut up to 135 days from their jail term. This scheme was brought in to decongest the British jails and make them free of foreign nationals.

For context, the ex-Wimbledon champion was sentenced to two and half years jail term way back in April 2022 after he was found guilty of breaching insolvency rules. He allegedly hid over £2.5million in cash, shares, and property.

Any foreign national who is convicted of a crime and given a prison sentence is considered for deportation at the earliest opportunity,” The UK Home Office spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, his family and friends are happy to have Boris among them by Christmas 2022.

We are pleased for Boris that he may qualify for an early release and be able to travel to Germany, albeit England has been his home for many, many years. I’m sure it will mean a lot to him and his family to be reunited for Christmas,” Mr. Becker’s former spokesperson said to The Sun as reported by the English daily The Express.

Boris Becker has lived in England for many years. The tennis icon will be sent to Germany, where he will meet his family for Christmas.
