The question of who the greatest men’s tennis player of all time is has been a topic of much discussion, and Boris Becker, a former World No.1, has shared his thoughts on the matter. According to Becker, the answer could ultimately be decided by a momentous clash between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic at the Roland Garros tournament.
During an interview with TennisMajors, Boris Becker expressed his opinion that it has become increasingly challenging to determine who the greatest men’s tennis player of all time is due to the fact that both Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, as well as Roger Federer, have all won at least 20 Grand Slam titles. “Whoever likes tennis, we have interesting times where we have arguably the greatest of all time taking all the titles away from everybody else,” said Becker.
Boris Becker noted that it was remarkable that all three players – Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic – had won 20 or more Grand Slam titles, which was previously unheard of. However, with Federer retired and Nadal and Djokovic in their mid-thirties, Becker believes it’s uncertain how much longer they can compete at their highest level. Furthermore, Boris Becker suggested that a potential final match between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic at the upcoming French Open could play a crucial role in shaping the opinion of fans when it comes to determining the greatest men’s tennis player of all time.
“Both have 22 majors, the French Open is coming up…,” added the German. Becker further commented that he would find it intriguing if a final match between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic took place, which would decide once and for all which of them has won the most Grand Slam titles. Becker encouraged fans to keep an eye out for this potential matchup.

Novak Djokovic shows Support for Rafael Nadal after tough clay court Season
In 2015, Novak Djokovic expressed his belief that Rafael Nadal would soon return to his winning ways on clay, even though he had beaten him in the quarterfinals of the French Open. Nadal is commonly considered to be the greatest clay-court player in history, but his performance on the surface was subpar in 2015 compared to his usual high standards. Despite previously winning at least one clay-court tournament every season from 2005 to 2014, he failed to capture a single title on clay that year.
Rafael Nadal’s impressive five-year winning streak at the French Open came to an end when he lost to Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals of the tournament, with a score of 7-5, 6-3, 6-1. It was also the first time that Djokovic had defeated Nadal at Roland Garros. However, Djokovic spoke up in support of Nadal during his press conference after the match, stating that it was normal for players to have a subpar season and that people should look at Nadal’s overall career accomplishments rather than question his abilities based on one season.
” In the end of the day, he’s human, as well, and it’s normal to have some seasons like that. I understand that people are questioning now his game and, you know, where he’s going to be. But if you need a reminder of who he is, you just look at his career stats and Grand Slams that he won” Djokovic said.
Novak Djokovic also asserted that Rafael Nadal’s numerous achievements throughout his career are a testament to his exceptional abilities as a tennis player. He added that there was no reason for concern regarding Nadal’s form at that time and that he would soon return to his usual level of performance.
