Croatian professional tennis player Borna Gojo, who faces second seed Novak Djokovic in the Round of 16 of the US Open, recently talked about some changes he would like to bring to the sport, explaining how ‘boring’ tennis is currently. The 25-year-old said that he would love to see players given the allowance to trash talk with their opponents and even shoulder bump them during matches to make things interesting.

“I feel tennis is a dying product and that we need more of that. I would change all the rules! Firstly, I would like for ball boys to bring the towels, because I have to walk every time. I would love if the players were allowed a shoulder bump or trash talk, a bit of provocation. We don’t have to fight, but I would like to be able to say something to my opponent. The way things are now – I say something and they call the police instantly, it’s so rigid,” Gojo said.

Presently, some players are often seen having examples with a fan moving, say in the 77th row of the stands of a massive stadium. Fans, according to Gojo, should be allowed to come and go without any hindrance. Moreover, he opined that fans should also be allowed to cheer between points.

Speaking about whether he had any heated moments with an opponent or a fan in his career, Borna Gojo tracked back to an incident that took place when he played college tennis. Some fans were throwing stuff at Gojo and his teammate and his teammate wanted to fight. However, they were stopped by the Police to prevent the matter from escalating.

Borna Gojo had to play in the qualifiers to reach the main draw of the US Open. It is appreciable that he reached the Round of 16 without any struggle whatsoever. He has won all his matches so far in the tournament in straight sets and is, in fact, yet to lose a single set, which is a massive achievement in itself. However, Novak Djokovic will perhaps be the most dangerous opponent that he could have faced in the US Open.

Djokovic, who has been in sensational form throughout this season, is on a mission to win his record 24th Grand Slam title. However, looking at the way Borna Gojo is playing currently, it would be fair to assume that he will give tough opposition to the Serbian.
