Brandon Nakashima is one of the most talented players on the ATP Tour. He recently wrestled against 8 equally brilliant tennis players of the world in the NextGen ATP Finals.
The American defeated Jiri Lehecka of the Czech Republic in the Championship match to clinch the NextGen ATP Finals title and trophy, here in Milan, Italy. This is the first major title of Nakashima’s career and a glimpse of great things to come in the future.
Brandon Nakashima, as expected, was thrilled after winning the title.
“I think it has been a great season for me. I’ve definitely learned a lot every match and every tournament. At the beginning of the year, I had some goals. [One was] to win my first ATP title and to be able to do that in San Diego was super special. Then to finish off the year here winning the title at Next Gen is super special,” Nakashima said jubilantly in the post-match interview.
“I think the whole year for me has been very consistent. I have such great memories both on and off the court and I’m super thankful for everyone that has been a part of it,” Continuing his train of thoughts, he further added.
NextGen ATP Finals tournament gives all the male players aged 21 years and less a chance to announce themselves on the world stage. Also, it gives ATP fertile ground to introduce new changes to the rules and try out new techniques which can make the sport interesting and exciting for the viewers.
Future of Tennis-Brandon Nakashima
All the players who have played in the NextGen ATP Finals are dubbed the “Future of Tennis”. Brandon Nakashima is one of them and the fifth person ever to win this tournament. The previous champions include Hyeon Chung, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Jannik Sinner, and Carlos Alcaraz. All these players are doing well in their respective careers.
Carlos Alcaraz has won the 2022 US Open and a host of other tournaments which propelled him to the World No.1 rank in the ATP Rankings. Stefanos Tsitsipas has won many tournaments after winning this competition. He is one of the contenders at this year’s ATP Finals and also has a relative chance to end the year as World No.1.
Brandon Nakashima has lauded the NextGen ATP Finals tournament. He considers this competition an important stepping stone in his career.
“I think this tournament is great. Especially the ATP organising it and the Italian Tennis Federation. I think it’s great that all the young and upcoming players come together in a nice fun format. I think it really exposes the younger generation as well with the media. I think this tournament is a great stepping stone. [To be] mixed will all the past champions is a great achievement. I’m just going to keep working hard and I am looking forward to next year,” he told in his post-match interview.
Like a true champion, he also thanked his support staff to help him well with this title.
“I think I have a great team with me here. Eduardo [Infantino] has been great this past year. He’s kind of brought us all together with Franco [Davin] and also with the fitness and physio. I’m super thankful for all of them. They work so hard for me and just to be able to share this moment with all of them, the last tournament of the year,” he said.
We also believe that the future is bright for Brandon Nakashima. Also, expectations would be high as the ATP Tour kickstart in 2023.
