“Not much time to rest,” Rafael Nadal confirms Wimbledon participation after successful foot treatment

Rafael Nadal
22-time grand slam champion Rafael Nadal is confirmed for the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. Nadal, who scripted history at the 2022 French Open by winning it for a record 14th time, was unsure about Wimbledon due to his foot issues. Nadal played the French Open final on injections due to a foot issue and won the final convincingly with a numbed foot.
Nadal underwent a foot treatment two days after winning the French Open and was on crutches for a couple of days. He then trained lightly for a couple of days and for the last two days, he has been training on the grass at Mallorca.
And on Friday, it is confirmed that Nadal will be competing at Wimbledon in a week’s time for the first time in 3 years. He last played at the AELTC in 2019 where he lost to Roger Federer in the semifinals. Nadal will be traveling to Wimbledon on Monday and will train for one week before the Championships.
The foot treatment went very well for Nadal and he’s feeling as fit as ever. According to sources, he just needs to get acquainted with grass and hence will travel to London on Monday.
“I’m happy with the way I was able to practice the week here. I am excited to travel, to try to play Wimbledon after three years,” said Nadal, who trained with Feliciano Lopez Friday.
“Not much time to rest. But I know that it’s gonna be like this if I wanted to try to play Wimbledon. I didn’t have time to lose. I had to try to do the treatment. If that works, it will be my chance to try to travel to Wimbledon. So that’s what I did and here I am with some positive news,” Nadal further added.
