The wait is finally over! 23-time grand slam champion Serena Williams is all set to return to professional tennis after a year’s break. The American legend last competed at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships where she got injured and bowed out of the first round in tears. Many assumed that it was the end of Serena’s career as she didn’t show any signs of a return in the coming months.

She even broke ties with long-time coach and friend, Patrick Mouratoglou, and that is when her retirement talks started picking up. Serena even said a few months ago that she won’t announce her retirement, but rather retire on her terms behind the scenes. She wasn’t even present on the entry list for Wimbledon this year, which starts in less than two days’ time.

But to everyone’s shock, Serena took to social media to shockingly announce that she will be returning to Wimbledon this year. She posted a picture of her white shoes on the grass courts and captioned it, “SW and SW19. It’s a date. 2022 See you there. Let’s Go.”

Serena was constantly updating her fans with her day-to-day activities via social media but never addressed the topic of her return. She is under light training but showed absolutely no signs of returning to the tour in Wimbledon. But Serena’s spontaneous decision has shocked the fans and has made them happy at the same time that she ain’t retiring.

She will now look to win an elusive 8th Wimbledon title and a record-equaling 24th grand slam title. Matching Margaret Court will be Serena’s only motivation and if she does that in three weeks’ time, it will be one of the greatest sporting moments in the history of world sports.
