“I want the best players,” British No. 1 Cameron Norrie wishes Wimbledon ban on Russians to be reversed

Cameron Norrie wants top Russian players back at Wimbledon

The British No.1 Cameron Norrie has also given his opinions on the decision of banning Russian and Belarusian players in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Russian and Belarusian players were deprived of the chance to play at Wimbledon and other important ATP and WTA tournaments held all around the year in the United Kingdom.

Cameron Norrie has stated in a new interview that he wants the top Russian players to come to London and compete at Wimbledon. World No.7 Daniil Medvedev and No.8 Andrey Rublev, amongst other Russian players missed out on the chance to play at Wimbledon 2022 and win the Grand Slam.

“For me, I want the best players in the world to be playing. I felt last year was tough for those guys, especially for Daniil and for Andrey, who have a chance of winning Wimbledon; especially I know how much those guys sacrificed with their careers and their goals are obviously very high to be winning Slams. So I really did feel bad for those guys,” The World No.14 reported to have said.

What to expect from Cameron Norrie in 2023?

The British tennis player Cameron Norrie had a terrific season this year. He won two ATP titles this year. He won his first ATP singles title this year in February when he defeated Reilly Opelka in the final of the 2022 Delray Beach Open. This is also his career’s third ATP singles title.

He also reached the final of the Mexican Open where he lost to Rafael Nadal. He won his second ATP singles title at the 2022 Lyon Open. He could not do much in the French Open but surprised everyone when he reached the semi-final of Wimbledon. He lost to eventual winner Novak Djokovic. At US Open, he lost to Andrey Rublev in the fourth round.

In the 2023 season, expectations will be high from the British player. He would like to improve on his performances of last year. The British fans would love him to play well at Wimbledon 2023.

“For me I’m just going to focus on my stuff and keep trying to improve. This year I had a great run there and hopefully looking to do that again and hopefully looking to get some points there next year,” he continued. Cameron Norrie would start his ATP season 2023 season. Maybe this is the year when he could win the first Grand Slam title of his career.
