World No. 1 Iga Swiatek is into her third Grand Slam final after getting the better of Aryna Sabalenka at the 2022 US Open to reach her second major final of the season and her first at the Flushing Meadows in New York looking for her first hardcourt major title.
Swiatek despite losing the first set against Sabalenka, managed to stage a brilliant comeback and thanks to Sabalenka’s increasing unforced errors, the Pole grabbed the opportunity to keep the chances of winning a third major alive as the World No. 1 eyes her 7th title this year.
Iga Swiatek criticised while the cameraman gets protected
The Pole however found criticism coming her way after a video went viral when she was changing tops while sitting on her bench and was filmed by the cameraman who was unaware about Swiatek having the intention to replace her top and the coverage was global.
After realising, the cameraman however quickly shifted his camera to somewhere else but in the three to four seconds of the coverage, Swiatek’s top swapping could be seen and it led to some people bashing the cameraman for indecency before the majority spoke in his favour.
While the player herself did not react to the incident, it is safe to assume she might have been comfortable as she knowingly did have a change of shirt in between the game. Twitteratis however remained divided on the incident as some found it normal while others believed it could be avoided.
Swiatek will however look to ignore all of this and prepare for the finals where she will take on 5th seeded Ons Jabeur who will be playing her second consecutive major final this year as she was the runner-up at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships as well and is looking for her maiden Grand Slam title.
