If anyone can beat World No. 1 Novak Djokovic at the upcoming 2023 Wimbledon, it’s going to be Nick Kyrgios, believes World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard admitted that he found it rather difficult to play on a grass court, and that is why he reckoned it’s the Australian who can challenge the world number one. Notably, Kyrgios fell to Djokovic last year in the grass-court Grand Slam final.

Alcaraz recently tasted defeat against the Serb at the recently concluded French Open by 6-3, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinals. After overcoming the Spaniard, Djokovic thumped Casper Ruud in the final to emerge triumphant at the tournament as well as lift his record 23rd Grand Slam title.

Alcaraz was the heavy favorite to upset Djokovic and win his second Grand Slam event. After the Serb won the first set, the 20-year-old made a comeback with a 7-5 win in the second set. However, to the fans’ dismay, due to some physical issues, he failed to win more than two games in the last two sets. So when he was asked to make a comment regarding his chances to challenge Djokovic at Wimbledon yet again, Alcaraz said it’s Kyrgios who is well-equipped to beat the 36-year-old.

[Nick] Kyrgios has already played a final in Wimbledon and he’s very good on grass as well. I am not saying that I am not capable of beating Djokovic, but I think I have less chances than on other surfaces. I think that Kyrgios has more chance to defeat Djokovic than any other player,” Alcaraz told reporters in the build-up to Queen’s Club Championships.

Talking about Carlos Alcaraz’s next tournament, he is set to play against Arthur Fils on Tuesday (June 20) at the Queen’s Club Championships. The young gun has won 35 out of 39 matches he played this season and also lifted four titles, including two Masters 1000 events.

On the other hand, Arthur Fils has won 10 out of 14 matches this year. He also lifted his maiden singles title at the Lyon Open, where he defeated Francisco Cerundolo in the final.

Notably, the two players have never faced each other, so their head-to-head record is currently 0-0. With that being said, it will be interesting to see how the Spaniard will play on the grass courts ahead of Wimbledon, starting next month.
